Overview

Enfield is home to the first community-owned wind farm in New York State and the second such wind farm in the United States; Black Oak Wind Farm, on Connecticut Hill, takes advantage of the windiest spot in the county and an ideal location between power stations to the east and west. Robert Treman State Park, with miles of CCC-built trails along the side of Treman gorge, has swimming, picknicking, and full camping facilities.



Essentials

Enfield is five miles from Ithaca and thus within reach of shopping and dining opportunities as well as the numerous state and public parks in the Tompkins County area. Enfield Elementary school is part of the Ithaca City School district, however, part of Enfield is served by Trumansburg school district.



Recreation & Entertainment

Connecticut Hill Wildlife Management Area is the largest WMA in the state, with over 11,000 acres, and a favorite place for hunters. Hillendale Golf Course on Applegate Road is a beautiful 18-hole course surrounded by fields and woodlands. It has a pro shop and restaurant on site, and offers discounts to visitors staying at any of several lodgings in Ithaca.



Transportation & Traffic

Enfield is served by the Tompkins County bus system, TCAT, which runs regular buses to Enfield for commuters.



Pros & Cons

Enfield has its own elementary school and is a mix of bedroom community for those commuting to Ithaca, and a traditional farming community. It is home to several dairy farms, a Welsh pony riding stable, and a handful of Community Supported Agriculture farms.
